Resort Specialist
Wim Steenbakkers CHA, President
Has 27 years of experience operating and developing unique destination
resort properties throughout North America, Europe and the Caribbean.
Mr. Steenbakkers and his team deliver energy, insight, marketing
expertise and organizational leadership required to achieve key
business objectives for development and operations of elegant
boutique hotel and resort properties. He and his team formulate
detailed operational plans, budgets and schedules. Institute
business processes, performance metrics and reporting systems.
Engage and coordinate the work of professional designers, architects
and construction contractors. Secure regulatory permits; troubleshoot
and resolve complex problems. Manage government and business
relationships.
DEVELOPMENT:
- Designed and implemented a development program, including 25
beachfront villas, 114 estate lots and
a 26,000 square foot clubhouse with full
amenities and a private marina.
- Contributed fresh concepts for expanding
the marina; smoothly orchestrated construction work involving 32
contractors and sub-contractors.
- Contributes in the brokerage of a franchise agreement with
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide for inclusion in
the company’s Starwood Luxury Collection,
which secured
a potent marketing resource.
- Contracted the architectural firm of Wimberly,
Allison, Tong & Goo for Cotton Bay’s design and negotiated
the services of Robert Trent Jones, Jr. to
create an 18-hole championship golf course.
- Conceptual designs for the country’s premier boutique hotel.
RESORT OPERATIONS:
- Successful turn-around of elegant destination
hotel in Canada. Hotel du Lac Carling, Quebec, Canada. As proprietor
spearheaded business finance, planning, marketing, sales and
operations of German-style chateau with a 100
rooms and suites and amenities that include
fine dining, 2 bars, health & beauty spa, a sport
center, adjacent lake, mountains and world-class golf
course. Set quality standards; implemented business protocols
and systems. Recruited, trained and managed staff.
- Negotiated the acquisition of a troubled operation and engineered
a dramatic business turnaround; won AAA’s
4-Diamond rating within 18 months.
- Consistently grew revenues and optimized
P&L results; established controls for budgets
and purchasing; resolved problems; ensured customer
satisfaction and promoted loyalty.
- Former President of 2000 acre destination resort operating
company.
ASSET MANAGEMENT:
- Successfully managed and sold boutique hotel in The Bahamas. General
Manager / Asset Manager, Coral Sands Hotel,Harbour
Island, Bahamas. Improved the marketability
of one of Harbour Island’s premier luxury resorts. Devised
and implemented creative business strategies and promotional
concepts. Identified areas for improvement in existing financial
operations, facilities management, guest services, purchasing
and human resources. Documented results; made reports and
recommendations to the owner.
